Chocolate balls…deadly?
I was playing earlier with Gizmo ( my almost 3 year old ferret, the naughtiest among the 3 ) when I placed him on the table where a bowl of chocolates stands. I had there different flavoured chocos…from praline to bitter to white chocos even to an eastern bunny choco…but no, Gizmo ignored them all and went straight to a sack full of chocolate balls filled with rum/vodka and immediately took one ball which was bigger than his mouth and ran off with it! I really thought that he was just going to play with it but no, I saw him shivering from excitement while biting at it…and as the alcohol oozed out, he started to lick the liquid with gusto! Few minutes later, he suddenly disappeared. I think he went to bed with a headache. I have an alcoholic ferret, what do you know!!
In a way I think Gizmo is…’alcoholic’…each time my husband would pour a drink- cognac, whiskey or this typical dutch drink jenever - we would always see Gizmo watching my husband’s every move and as he passes the ferrets’ house, Gizmo would stand by the door and wait in anticipation….looks like he’s begging. In the beginning it was but a joke when my husband offered him a a drop of cognac…Gizmo licked it dry and asked for more. Husband then tried whiskey- he liked it , gin too. Smart as he is, he knows when my husband would get a drink, even when he’s sleeping, we’d see his head popping out of the sheets and his nose smelling the air.
rather is my favorite among my little babies…I do love them all dont get me wrong, but he’s really a character. Luckily no one smokes around him or he might try it too. But soon he must find a job to sustain his drinking!
