Clean is BAD!
Clean is BAD. That’s what the veterinarian told me this morning after she’s checked my pug’s (Charlie) ears.
I had to bring Charlie to the vet this morning because we have been seeing him shaking his head due to ears itching too much, been going on for few days so we were alarmed. You see pugs are known not to complain when in pain. People might think that’s a good trait but for pug owners like us, it’s just the opposite. I rather have a dog that whines or makes sound when he feels something so that we can help him immediately. With Charlie we have to be extra sensitive because of this.
So off we (Charlie and me) went to the vet which is just about 10 minutes away from our home. Charlie hates going there so we had to stop along the way for about 6 times because he was really protesting. And once we’re inside the waiting room, he was pretty nervous. I guess he hasn’t forgotten his many trips there in the past when he had to be treated for his terrible cough and for his eye that almost went blind.
Anyway, his ears were checked and the vet said both are a bit inflamed. I asked her if it’s wrong to clean it with baby wipes (which I use for cleaning Charlie’s ears, wrinkles and tummy). The vet’s answer was ‘ clean is bad’ , that I’ve stimulated the bad agents in my dogs ears that’s why they are now inflamed. I must admit that I often clean them and even a tiny voice in my head was already telling me not to do it too much but I’m just too stubborn. Because I hate smelly dog ears. The vet gave me ear drops to be administered twice a day until Charlie’s itch goes away.
It’s also unbelievable how expensive pets medicine are! Charlie needs to find a job, gheez!

i was just thinking of you and you appeared in my comment box, ahahaha. lahat naman mahal na ngayon e, but ever wonder how those ’street people’ with big dogs in tow could feed and nurse their dogs! anyway, ganyan din ako with my kids, kalikot din yung areas sa tenga but not so much now kasi nga one time when i super wiped them behind their ears nasobrahan ko yata at nasugatan, aray ko.

Thess, I think even in people cleaning the ears too often is bad. If I am not mistaken you can easily catch an infection if you are to hygienic. But I must say, it feels good when you poke something in your ear. I’m sure Charlie feels the same when you wipe his ears with baby wipes.

I was also told that it’s not advisable for dogs to get a daily bath :) Dunno if this is true or not but many people love to get that dog smell in winter :)

si ninna nagka-ear infection kasi masyado daw malinis ang tenga (tama ba naman yun). napagalitan pa ako ng doctor dahil dun, haha!
siguro nga kailangan nang kumayod ni charlie. kung makakapagsalita lang siya, baka humingi yan ng talent fee tuwing gagawin mo siyang model sa pics mo, hehe. :)
