Conduct unbecoming nga lang ba?
When I read my friend Sardonicnell’s ENTRY, I became furious ..still am! I am not always up to date when it comes to Philippine news that’s why I am ever grateful for the blogs and internet for bringing them to me. This issue Nell has written really made my blood boil. Nakaka highblood! I’m sure most of you know about this scandalous act by doctors and nurses at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) where they made fun of an anesthetized male (gay) patient while being operated on, celphone cameras were focused on the patient’s behind. And not only the shameless doctors and nurses were present but as well as mirons (bystanders) cheering on like hyenas. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!
As I watch the video, I can’t help but feel so very very sorry for the patient and utter disgust for the people who wear the uniform and swore to protect and save people lives. What also made me puke is this priest’s bromidic comment (read it here) ..here’s a part of it:
Msgr. Achilles Dakay, spokesperson of the Archdiocese of Cebu, Wednesday said the doctors and nurses who had made fun of an anesthetized male patient in the operation room of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) and uploaded a video of the surgery on YouTube should not be blamed solely for the scandal.
“We are asking everyone not to forget or to bypass the main issue: The wrong act of a guy with another man,” Dakay said in an interview over the Church-run Radio Veritas. “People are not talking about what happened before the operation—the homosexual act that was done very badly.”
His timing was oh so perfect to point finger at gay people. May I ask him to answer this: ‘ Why did the Pope bypassed Boston during his US visit? ‘ Can Dakay outright say that it’s ‘because the church scandal there is so high and church officials dare not set foot on the state’? Children suffered in the hands of many so called church leaders there. So to this Filipino priest issuing his banal words, tsk….you pointed a finger at the patient and gay people but didn’t see the other 3 fingers’re pointed at you?
Ergo, I hope actions be taken soon VS all the doctors and nurses who committed this shameful act. It is but rightful to have their names published and let this be a lesson to those with similar character.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque III on Tuesday identified five of the estimated 15 members of the surgery team that conducted the extraction of a perfume canister from the patient’s rectum.
They were head surgeon Dr. Philip Leo Arias, assistant surgeons Dr. Angelo Linawagan and Dr. Max Joseph Montecillo, nursing attendant Rosemarie Villareal and circulating nurse Carmina Sapio, who could face administrative charges ranging from simple neglect to grave misconduct.
Duque also listed the breaches in protocol in the incident:
• The use of cellular phones in the operating room.
• The use of a video camera without the patient’s consent and not for educational purposes.
• The “shameful” behavior of the doctors and nurses involved in the surgery.
According to Duque, the five medical personnel were still on duty at the VSMMC, although they have been transferred to different stations in the absence of preventive sanctions against them.
Double shame on you because you did not only shamed your families but your country too. Suerte nyo dahil saka-sakali ay lisensya lang mawawala sa inyo, kung sa mga countries na swift ang penalty, nakakatakot isipin kung anong mangyayari sa inyo :rolleyes:

Thess, what happened in the Philippines is really sad. I can’t imagine how the doctors and nurses violated their patient by making fun of the situation and publicly posting that video, which by the way I have not seen yet.
With regards to the comment of the priest, I think that was out of line. The issue here is not whether the patient is gay or not but how the doctors and nurses acted so unprofessionally. Msgr Dakay’s personal opinion and religious beliefs on homosexuality should have been tackled separately. Naki ride pa kasi sa issue eh

I agree, naki ‘ride’ nga sa issue si mr. dakay… bukod pa sa mabilis manghusga ng kapwa.
I was schocked when I watched the video. Grabe talaga. Parang hindi mga doctors and nurses ang nandoon. Parang mga istambay sa kanto. Malas nila, bobo sila dahil gumawa pa sila ng ebidensya (video).
As for the priest, wala tayong magagawa. May mga tao talaga na parang mga bawang, gusto palaging nakasahog.

hindi ko na lang uulitin pero yung comment ko sa post ni nell, yun pa rin ang comment ko tungkol sa issue dito.
dagdag ko na lang na, sana hindi na lang naki-ride si msgr. at dahil nag-zoom in siya sa question ng homosexuality ng pasyente, parang lumalabas tuloy na minor na issue lang for him yung pagiging hindi makatao ng mga doc at nurses, e yun ang main issue dito.

I haven’t seen the actual video but I saw part of it on TV (most of it blurred for TV purposes) and I was shocked by the actions of the doctors and medical staff. I feel sorry for the patient/victim. I hope he gets the justice he deserves.

The video is a gross violation of the patient’s privacy. Believe me in other countries the hospital could have been sued big time and these perverts could have been stripped of their licenses :rolleyes:
