Dark Shadow
My day started out quite gloomy. First due to my ‘ time of the month’ thing followed by a tragic dutch news, ‘internet sore’ and family sad news.
First the tragic dutch news. This morning a well known dutch director and newspaper columnist was stabbed and repeatedly shot by a man with a mission.
Close to 9 am this morning, Theo Van Gogh ( yes, distant relative of the famous painter Vincent Van Gogh) 47 years old, was attacked while on his bike by a 26 yr old Morrocan-dutch with a knife. Theo still managed to walk across the street but the suspect who wasn’t far behind fired at him 6-7 shots. When he fell to the ground, the killer even stood there making sure he’s dead and then stabbed him again and left a note on his chest…written was something in arabic.
Back in August, his film ‘SUBMISSION’ was aired. It was about violence against the muslim women in islamitic societies. Shame I wasn’t able to see the whole of this movie but a part and I’m pretty sure that any ‘fanatiek islam’ (hardline muslim) will not take this sitting down. After it was shown, Theo received death threats but even said during an interview that ‘ the threats doesn’t worry me.’
It only ended his life.
As of this writing ( amost 9 pm dutch time) hundreds and thousands of people are gathered at the Amsterdam square, making noises..for the fallen Theo. His newest film ‘06/05′ was about Pim Fortuijn (a dutch anti-immigration politician who was shot to death days before national elections) will be aired next month. This I will not miss.
Shame isn’t it, that when you speak your mind, ‘they’ answer you with bullets and knives.
2nd, Internet sore. I blog hopped this morning but I had to stop due to what I’ve read, I guess I was annoyed too.
Why do some people leave nasty remarks on the blogger’s tagboards or comment boxes? What’s the reason for this? Is this really necessary? I found out that a 3rd blogger from my list had to quit blogging because of other people’s nasty doings. Bloggers were either harrassed, their sites’ hacked or left with unnecessary comments. Pretty abnormal.
Are these people jealous, envious? or simply nasty? Do they find the bloggers offensive that they feel they should be offensive in return? Why don’t people just leave if they don’t find a certain blog to their liking and refrain from saying anything? At least that’s what I do. If I have nothing good to say, then so be it. I don’t have to leave anything smelly behind.
But I guess some people are born nasty and they simply must let this side show. I have one such visitor in my blog (whew! I consider myself lucky because man! compared to the other comments I’ve read, my nasty commentress is a novice) And she can continue being nasty because I find her a ms. funny two-faced clown. Nothing to be worried about.
ok, I don’t want a long blah blah about nasty people. I just want to send my sympathy to the dead blogs.
3rd. Dad-in-law had the result of his blood test. It seems that his prostate cancer has come back and slowly becoming active again. He is nearing 80 and with his doctor’s advice, husband opted not to tell him for now, about it….we all know that it will really bring him down and might speed up ‘things’ instead of him enjoying maybe years to come, who can tell, right? DIL is still strong and enjoys life, we just want to leave it at that.
I guess today was shadow casted. But I know there’s light too…somewhere.

Call me Thess. Married to a wonderful Dutchman.
