for a while
Last week I was surprised to receive a non familiar (or so i thought) email from a lady asking me to give her a quick call & that she’d call me back. It was a filipina, and I couldn’t quite place her name, nevertheless I rung her. I heard this jolly and friendly voice from the other end, shouting my name, pretty excited and laughing saying that it was so nice to hear my voice.
I said I couldn’t remember her. She laughed and then started to refresh my memory, way to almost 10 years ago..then I remember! She’s this tall, elegant looking, poised and beautiful nurse slash singer I’ve met in the past, almost worked with when I tried to form a group years back for a hotel in Bangkok. She’s someone I would want to work with. Had a soulful sultry voice, nice set of eyes and a body to boot, plus a good character. But my plan then didn’t materialized as our supposedly pianist grabbed another contract instead of honoring our work.
Anyway, so we had a hearty and long phone chat. It was the opposite this time, she’s asked me if I’ll be interested to work with her, sing with her. She’s told me about her plans and oh boy! I almost forgot that I am not on my own now and married. I told her not only that I am married but now old and ballooned which she answered with ‘make-up and exercise’. But it didn’t mattered to her since she had seen my professional ways (according to her) which was more important …It sounded so tempting that I would have said yes even without asking for the budget (salary.) Tempting because 1. it was to work with her and that was a dream 2. it was to work with professional musicians 3. one of the targeted hotel (where she played for before giving birth to her baby) and 4. it’s in Maldives, a vacation paradise!
“I could take a walk in the beach in the morning before lunch and practices, enjoy the scenery or even try the water” when suddenly, Floop! my bubbles bursted. Charlie’s (my pug) face brought me back to reality who was snoring beside me while I was talking on the phone.
to make a long story short, I had to turn it down. Initial contract was 2 years, wow! I said impossible…she reduced it to a year, I bargained for 2 weeks including accommodation for my husband and puggy which she knew I was kidding, (or was I really? he he.)
It was just nice to be wanted despite the fact that a lot of them younger and better singers are out there. I guess when you’ve done something good, it’ll hunt you…the most exciting positive way.

Sayang! Di ba puedeng sa Netherlands na lang yung stint? :-)
But then again, you do have your priorities, being married with “children.” I can relate to this blog post.

hay naku dear, you just turned down one of those opportunities na kahina-hinayang. but i respect your decision sweetie… what counts really is kung ano talaga feel mong gawin di ba? you should not force yourself if ang kapalit naman e, you’ll be malayo from your loved ones. well, kung pwede bang isama ang hubby at mga tsikitings mo, why not di ba? siguro kung ako ikaw, ganon din ang magiging decision ko.

BOKS: darleng, niloko ko nga mister ko kasi narinig nya conversations (3 ulit tumawag, pinupursige ako talaga) sabi ko, 1 year lang naman…aruu, worried agad si bossing.
