Medical wonder?

Late last night in bed with eyes half closed, I watched the re-run of an old report about a little Egyptian girl who had a ‘parasitic’ head. I don’t know if you can recall her story, she made the headlines back in 2005 when videos and photos of hers were all over the news. She had a head attached to hers that was preventing her from moving (tilting her head) and basically , shared everything her little body had. Last night was the 3rd time that I’ve seen the re-run and each time I couldn’t help but feel sorry for the baby but most of all, for her undeveloped sister with no limbs, no vital organs but only shared her brain.

The baby died in 2006 though. That, I think was the saddest part. But even though the chance of surviving the operation was almost none ( such case had a 100% fatality ) I think the surgeons and hospital staff were courageous for doing the operation. Proud people, the Egyptians were, even though the hospital where the baby was admitted was poor in facilities, with old lab supplies, really nothing like what we usually see on television about ‘celebrated’ hospitals. But since the hospital wanted to prove too that they can perform such operation just like they do in the US and countries in Europe, they went on with it and succeed.

Only the little girl died in 2006, from complication. Such a tragic story.
