Must This?
Are there many types of anger? Because I was not able to explain the type of anger that I felt last week when I read this report from a local newspaper (I’m still bloody mad, mind you) : Canadian government recently authorized the largest ever commercial hunt of harp seals: one million over three years, most of them seal pups.

( source: greenpeace USA) The Newfoundland Grand Banks, off the east coast of Canada, used to be famous for its productive fishing grounds. The first European explorers described the waters as being so full of cod you just had to lower a basket into the water to bring it up full of fish. In 2003, centuries later, the Canadian government announced the permanent closure of the cod fishery due to depletion of the species. So why have cod disappeared from the Grand Banks? Never mind the highly destructive factory fishing industry – it must be the harp seals. Or so said the Canadian government, as it increased the annual seal hunt.
So the seals are blamed for eating too much cod? OK, let’s hunt them!
Canada calls it as ‘management plan’, authorizing hunters to kill up to 350,000 seals when hunting season begins later this month. Don’t think that it will take months or years to reach this staggering number of seals to be killed, because it can be done fast. Primary hunted are the pups, not older than 15 days …the fur are considered at its best ‘white’ and since the pups are not expert swimmers yet nor can move faster on ice, there is no way that they can escape a killer’s club.
warning, bloody image next
And this is how they hunt them

….bludgeoned and dragged with a hook while still gasping for life
In reality, I know that hunting is unfortunately done either ‘legally’ or illegally, what makes my blood boil is when hunters carry it out in the most cruel way.
Have you ever thought of how it is to live like an animal? Say like a dog that is constantly teased, hurt, or simply bullied by humans? I don’t want to be treated like that, do you?
If I’ m an animal and humans will not treat me with respect nor show me love, I at least want to be left alone and let me live, let me exist. I also have the right!
And lovers of furcoat, how can they wear this?

I know that the above photos are gruesome and probably some of you will ask why the hell I posted them. Because these are facts and we need to face them. And the good news is, we can help prevent this killing. Why not visit this greenpeace link ..a letter telling Prime Minister Martin of Canada to stop the hunt. I hope that you my friends will take a few minutes of your time to sign and send the letter.

That is one thing I will never understand…Killing an animal as a sort of sacrifice so we can sustain ourselves (thanks to them) is one thing. Killing it for mere profit without respect for its life is just evil.
